This photo of the Atomium; a magnificent structure on the outskirts of Brussels built to commemorate the 1958 Brussels World Fair. Designed by André Waterkeyn, it represents both a unit cell of an Iron crystal magnified 165 billion times, and the then 9 regions of Belgium. What a fantastic Hi-5 to the world! It's Belgium saying we're at the forefront of science, design, and democracy - and I think it still manages to pull it off. Yes, it was built as a visitors structure similar to Paris' Eiffel Tower, but to me, it seems like a huge, multi-sphercial steel ad that sells Belgium to the world.
